Don Bennett has announced an FCC license exam right before our club meeting on November 3rd at the Medford PD Community room. The check-in for the exam starts at 5:15 PM. Don has asked that you preregister if possible but he will take walk-ins.

There was no October 2022 issue of The Repeater. The editor wishes to apologize for the lack of an October newsletter, web update, and email. I lost Internet for 3 weeks at the time the newsletter, web update, and emails occur.
September 1, 2022 Club Meeting

Scott will talk about his DXing experience in the Philippines.
Don Bennett has restarted the amateur radio FCC license exams in Medford after a multi-year hiatus due to COVID. The exams will now be held at the Medford Police Department Community Room, as access to the old facility has been lost. The exam will be held prior to our regularly scheduled club meeting. Exam check-in starts at 5:15 PM with the exam taking place after all the applicants have been checked in.

Intro to setting up and using WSTJ-X with the idea of helping getting set up for the first ARRL digital contest.

This month we are moving back to the Medford Police Department Community Room, which has been re-opened after COVID.
The room has very good audio/visual equipment, Internet access, and a bit more room, so it seems like a good choice.

The March meeting will be held in-person at the Jacksonville Branch library at 340 W C St. in Jacksonville. Masks are required.
COVID case counts have been very rapidly decreasing in our area, enabling in-person meetings. Oregon state law still requires masks to be worn at indoor events. Jackson County Library Services also requires masks inside.

Program: Power over Ethernet (PoE), Tom McDermott, N5EG
The February meeting will be a presentation on Power over Ethernet (PoE), how it works, and the different versions available.
PoE is seeing increasing usage beyond just powering VoIP telephones. For example, many wireless data radios use PoE to avoid the need for feedlines and their associated loss (especially important as microwave frequencies). The AREDN network radios generally use PoE to power the outside unit.
The presentation will discuss how PoE works, some safety mechanisms built in, and midspan and endspan power injection.
