Another month has flown by and we are nearing summer. My President’s letter will be brief. All I can say is Field Day, Field Day, Field Day.
Our next meeting will be focused on this upcoming event. Please put some thought into what you can do to help out. The food details are probably near the top of the list, as well as set up work on antennas and such.

Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 7:00 PM Red Cross Building, across from Hawthorne Park, South of Tinseltown, in Medford Program: Field Day plans Harry, AE7NY, and I will both be out of town for business purposes on April 3rd, so we will miss seeing the gang for that meeting. I am sure Jack, WA7IHU, won’t mind sitting in my chair for that evening. One of the items for discussion, which may actually be part of the presentation part of the meeting, will concern our plans for Field Day.
March 6, 2008 Club Meeting
Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 7:00 PM American Red Cross building, 60 Hawthorne, across from Hawthorne Park, Medford
Program: The ARES organization in this area, Don Montgomery, WB7Q
Don Montgomery, WB7Q, will present this month’s program on the ARES organization in this area. It should be a good presentation because many people feel strongly about this phase of amateur radio, and emergency communications is the sole reason many new licensees are getting into this hobby. It has been proven time after time that we can come through when the commercial carriers get tied in knots by the holes in their infrastructure, as well as the overwhelming amount of traffic.
As always, we will start with a short business meeting, a coffee break and then the program. Please join us at 7:00 P.M. in the American Red Cross building at 60 Hawthorne on Thursday, March 6. Bring a friend.
Announced in the March 2008 issue of The Repeater.
February 7, 2008 Club Meeting
Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:00 PM Red Cross Building, across from Hawthorne Park, South of Tinseltown, in Medford
Program: Spark, arc, and alternator transmitters, Lud Sibley, KB2EVN
Lud Sibley, KB2EVN, will give a photo and technical presentation on pre-electronic radio transmitters: spark, arc, and alternator. These were the standard technology before and into the ‘20s. Think in terms of a 10-kilowatt arc transmitter in Medford, and a one-megawatt one outside Bordeaux! How about a 20-kHz, 200-kilowatt alternator that once spanned the Atlantic every day, and did so again last November!
Announced in the February 2008 issue of The Repeater.

November 1, 2007 Club Meeting
Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 7:00 PM Red Cross Building, across from Hawthorne Park, South of Tinseltown, in Medford
Program: “Size matters!” (the VT-158, 7C22 & 6949 tubes), Lud Sibley, KB2EVN, plus show and tell night
Lud KB2EVN has volunteered to put on a program at this next meeting. It will be on the VT-158, 7C22 & 6949 tube and is called “size matters!” Also I have declared it “show and tell night.” Everyone has something they would like to show the rest of us. Do like Al Tipsword W6GER does, bring it down!
I was lax in my duties at the last meeting and didn’t appoint a nominating committee. We need some volunteers so we can vote on them and install the new slate at our Christmas dinner.
Announced in the November 2007 issue of The Repeater.
