7:20pm Presentation on “Mag Loop Antenna Theory and Practice” by Steve Bosbach, KW5V.

Why Mag Loops? Loops can be quieter on receive, have both high and low angle radiation, null is at low angle, NVIS is omnidirectional. Efficient for their size, 1/8-wave to quarter-wave. Quarter-wave can reach 80% eff. Almost ground independent, but they can be complicated, detail-dependent, and expensive for higher than QRP usage. Steve showed a 40M RV-mounted Mag Loop, built from an original design by John Portune, W6NBC, that Steve used at Quartzfest in Arizona in 2018.

See www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CaJokq_oIM for John’s design info. See also a YouTube by Steve Adler, VK5SFA, for an 160/80M Mag Loop design: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTvuBlwaU8E

7:58pm End presentation, break for snacks, coffee & visiting.

8:30pm meeting adjourned

Submitted, John KF7UMK, Secretary.
