2024-03-07 RVARC Meeting Minutes

7:01pm Meeting called to order by President Don Bennett, KG7GP. There was a successful exam session prior to the meeting, with only the usual computer problems. 25 attendees.

Treasurer’s report: $5407.10 checking acct balance. $50 was paid to the State for the Domestic Non-profit Corporation fee.

New Business: Tom, N5EG, says there are bunch of badges out for member pickup, but still six emails bounced, and two more unknown, and we need to get those sorted, please.

John, AC7S, mentioned the ARRL CQ Worldwide contest is at the end of October, and he will try to be in Manila around then, with Scott, NA7OM. (cqww.com shows the SSB contest is always the last full weekend of October, and the CW contest is always the last full weekend of November. See website for details.)

Scott, NA7OM, reminded that there are both phone and CW contests, and he is working on fundraising ideas to help pay for equipment shipping, etc, under club auspices.

Raoul, KG6DKA, wondered how much was needed and how big the group was. Not enough was known yet.

Scott said a big, unlimited weight box could be shipped for about $120, but transit time was about 2 months. For smaller stuff, the airlines have raised their baggage rates. Don asked if Scott could make a funding proposal at the next meeting.

Old Business: CARE Club is putting Field Day together. Mike, N7XBJ, is the contact for plans.

Don, KG7GP, asked for program ideas for the coming meetings. Some of the ideas were: moonbounce, pico-balloons, high-altitude balloons, the Philippines DX contest results, more beginner programs, 10GHz comms.

There was a discussion of Matt’s 10GHz rig, and upcoming outings, and Mike volunteered to give a presentation on moonbounce in a couple of months.

Ross Hart, KK7NJ, associated with the Valley Radio Club of Oregon, in Eugene, announced their club president since 2001, Riley McLean, W7RIL, is now a silent key. The club membership was sympathetic, as loss of one’s friends & colleagues is always difficult.

7:51pm break for visiting, coffee & snacks.

8:30pm Meeting adjourned.

— John, KF7UMK Secretary
