2023-12-07 RVARC Meeting Minutes
7:08pm meeting called to order by President Don Bennett, KG7BP. 22 attendees
Treasurer’s report by Mike Bach W6FFC: $5002.09 bank balance after $200 paid for club insurance.
New business: Mike, W6FFC, asked if we might consider category 3A for Field Day next year. The club came in #1 in 2A for Oregon, and #27 for 2A in the USA. 20M & 40M were good all night, and the only limitation was operator fatigue in the late hours after midnight. It was said that more points were made from GOTA than the regular operators. Amy, AG7GP, requested adding another antenna. Bruce, KG7TUO, requested that we have a schedule of operators. Mike, W6FFC, asked if the CARE Club (carehamradio.com) might spearhead organization for the next Field Day. He also suggested we might put up a 20M, 5-element monoband antenna, if there’s enough help to erect it. Consensus was that Lud’s (KB2EVN) place in Sams Valley was an excellent location, and hope we can use it again.
Old Business: Bruce, KG7TUO, said the license exam classes were going well at their Sage & McAndrews location. Don, KG7BP, asked whether Saturday mornings could be scheduled for exams. Bruce said they need a better video projector. Van, K7VS, said he has an extra screen, if a group needs one.
Don, KG7BP, said he worked Ecuador on FT8, as well as the states of WA, AZ, & NM.
Scott, NA7OM, said there were 4-5 slots open for the DXpedition to Vanuatu in October 2024, see www.dx-world.net/vanuatu-dxpedition-2024/ for more info.
7:25pm Break for coffee, snacks, and visiting.
7:59pm Presentation on DX by Scott Cummings, NA7OM. Scott demonstrated helpful realtime DX filtering at dxsummit.fi/ which also has VoaCap propagation prediction service integrated. He showed that much more can be seen by coordinating with dxmaps.com/spots/mapg.php which gives an at-a-glance map for various frequency bands, regions, and modes. Other helpful sites were mentioned including clublog.org, HamAlert.org, and dxheat.com
8:30pm End presentation
