7pm President Pat Cunningham, KD7MPA, called meeting to order.

Tonight’s program: Scott Cummings, NA7OM, Philippines DXpedition

Reports of our Field Day 2022 said about 1400 contacts were made, and total expenses amounted to $435 for food and gasoline. $250 had been approved and the costs were split 50/50 with the CARE club, so we were under budget.

Treasurer’s report: checking account bank balance is $4833.93

Welcome new attendee: Curtis Hall, KM6YOP

Upcoming CQP: 1600Z October 1 - 2200Z October 2

Scott, NA7OM, wondered if there might be wildfire smoke problems. Also, fire regulations prohibit use of gasoline generators. Perhaps we could use AC7S’s location? Motion was made and seconded to authorize $175 of club funds for CQP. A vote was taken, and passed in the affirmative.

Pat, KD7MPA, asked if there was interest in a club swap meet, and a handful of folks said they would participate. Mike, WB6FFC, thought perhaps it could be held at the Kathrein, Inc., Scala Div. parking lot in White City. Lud Sibley, KB2EVN, said perhaps it could be held at the Sams Valley Tube Museum. A date will be decided upon at a future meeting.

7:25pm Break for refreshments.

7:50pm Presentation by Scott, NA7OM, of his Philippines DXpedition this summer.

Scott presented slides and videos of his trip to the region of Binangonan on Laguna Lake. After much time, paperwork, and “red-tape” he was able to get his FT450D and Morse keyer legally imported and set up to work the world while there. He worked with the Philippine Amateur Radio Association (PARA), found online at www.para.org.ph

His callsign over there was DU1/NA70M and he is a PARA international associate member. The weather was quite wetter than we are used to, with 26 typhoons/year on average.

Of note was that the raindrops could be up to 1" in size, and gutters were 14" wide with 6" diameter downpipes.

8:55pm End presentation

Next month’s program will be “programming handhelds”

Submitted, John, KN7UMF, Secretary.
