Field Day 2017
RVARC Field Day, 2017—At Science Works in Ashland
The Rogue Valley Amateur Radio Club Field Day for 2017 will be held at Science Works Hands-on Museum in Ashland. We will be using the north side of their lot, bordering Campus Way.
The Museum is located at 1500 E. Main St. This is near the more southerly of the two Ashland exits off of Interstate 5 (exit # 14). I clocked the drive at 10 miles one way from east Medford.
Setup begins on Friday afternoon, June 23, teardown is Sunday 11:00 AM, June 25. The actual operating event is 11:00 AM Saturday through 11:00 AM Sunday.
Science Works is open Daily 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the summer. Last year we had a number of visitors on Saturday who stopped by to see what we were doing, and learn about amateur radio.
There is a parking lot at the end of Campus Way for the Science Museum.

The club voted to name our field day this year in honor of Bud Larson, W7LNG, and his incredible persistence and continuity: the Bud Larson W7LNG Memorial Field Day 2017.
Field Day 2017
From the September 2017 issue of The Repeater.
This year we held a 3-way joint field day with CARE and JCARES at Science Works in Ashland. Compared to last year we had a better setup to handle a lot of folks.
We entered class 4A this year, and had transmitters on CW, Phone, and Digital modes, and a VHF transmitter as well. We had solar power, and a group of folks making satellite contacts. Mike brought his 2-element full-size 40m quad, after a quick balun replacement it tuned up right on frequency.
10m and 15m were completely gone this year, and we did not make any contacts on either band. 20m and 40m were the work horse bands, but we made quite a few contacts on 80m, and a few on 160m.
JCARES brought their communications van, which was quite a treat to see inside.
We had many first-time attendees, and quite a few who made their first-ever HF or VHF contact.
Mike Bach did the cooking for the group, and by consensus, the food was a real step up compared to previous years. As usual, lots of kids (both big and little) and a real sense of joint cooperation between all our clubs.
ARRL 2017 Field Day Scores for Oregon
From the December 2017 issue of The Repeater.
The ARRL has published scores the 2017 Field Day. Our 3-way club effort came in 2nd in the Oregon 4A category, and 4th overall in the Oregon section this year.
Our effort was very successful in that we introduced a large number of new folks to HF and VHF operating for the first time, as well as to Field Day operation.
